How to setup Android SDK?
First of all, visit the official website of Android to download the latest version of Android SDK. If you are going to install this Android SDK on Microsoft Windows then download this installer_rXX-windows.exe executable file. Once downloaded, you can run this executable file to launch the Android SDK set up tool. After this, you can use our instructions that will guide you throughout the setup process.

For macOS and Linux users, you can download android-sdk_rXX-macosx.zip and android-sdk_rXX-linux.tgz files respectively. In this tutorial, we are setting up this Android SDK on Microsoft Windows 7. So, let’s get started with the setup process.

Step 1: Launch Android SDK Manager. To do so, you can follow the below-mentioned instructions by clicking on one option after another.
All Programs -> Android SDK Tools -> SDK Manager

The window of the Android SDK Manager will appear like the following.

Step 2: You must know that there are other important packages that you need even after the installation and launch of Android SDK Manager. You will get an option of a total of 7 packages by default. But it is recommended to deselect 2 packages with the name ‘Documentation for Android SDK’ and ‘Samples for SDK’. This step will help you to reduce the installation time of the other packages. After this, click on the Install 7 Packages button to move forward in the installation process. Here, you will get the following window.

Step 3: At the last step, you just need to select Accept License then click on the Install button to proceed further. Now, you can leave rest of the process to your computer system as it would take quite a time to finish this installation process. Once the installation process is over, do not forget to close this dialog box.

How to setup Android Eclipse?
It would be better if you could start with the download of the latest version of Eclipse IDE which is Eclipse Oxygen (Platform Version 4.7). After the download of this executable file, place the binary distribution in your desired location.

For an instance, if you are using Microsoft Windows then you can unpack the executable file in C:\eclipse. And if you are using Linux as your platform then /usr/local/eclipse would be better.

After this set the PATH variable accordingly. To run the eclipse.exe file, you just need to double-click on it. Otherwise, you can use the command: %C:\eclipse\eclipse.exe, if you are a Windows user. On Linux machine, type in the command: $/usr/local/eclipse/eclipse.

How to setup plug-in for Android Development Tools (ADT)?
Let’s take a look at the steps to setup ADT plug-in.

Step 1: Launch Eclipse IDE. Now, follow the given instructions by clicking on one option after another.
Help -> Software Updated -> Install New Software

After which, you will get the following dialog box appear on your screen.

Step 2: Click on the Add button. This button will help you to add ADT plug-in. You can see this in the below screenshot. Now, to add this location just click on OK. After this, the Eclipse will display the list of available plug-ins.

Step 3: Now, click on the Select All button. After which hit the Next button. This will take you further in the process to install other important plug-ins.

How to create Android Virtual Device on Eclipse IDE?
Android Virtual Device is the tool which helps the Android developer to test your application. So, it would be better if you could just create an Android Virtual Device before you start with the application coding. Follow the mentioned steps to create AVD.

Step 1: To launch Android AVD Manager, follow the below-mentioned instruction.
Windows -> AVD Manager

Step 2: After this, click on the New button which will land you to a new Android Virtual Device window. Here, fill in the required details to start with a new AVD. And finally hit the OK button.

After the successful AVD creation, you can start with the development of the Android application. It would be recommended to close this current window and restart your computer system. This will help Eclipse to work properly.
